The day I met Zac Efron

Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron braved the wild weather and hoardes of screaming girls yesterday to take to the water at Bondi Beach for the annual Oakley Learn To Ride event, which aims to raise awareness for the label's charity, OneSight Foundation.

Zac joined pro surfers Layne Beachley and Tom Whitaker to help us nervous novice surfers face the "cyclonic" 6ft waves. Donning a tight red rashie, the 22-year-old stayed a mere five minutes in the water before retreating back into the Bondi Rescue buggy to be driven into the arms of waiting girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens.

Zac and Vanessa, who dined with us at North Bondi Italian, could not have been a lovelier couple. Zac, who couldn't keep his hands off Vanessa, kept his arm around her waist and even kissed her forehead while chatting to us.

Vanessa, who is teeny-tiny in real life, said she loved coming to Sydney and first learnt to surf on the iconic Bondi Beach. Zac said the weather had been amazing and had been busy skating all over Sydney.
