Menu makeover: Kelly Rowland

Breaking News
Kelly Rowland is in the best shape of her life, lighting up the UK X Factor judging panel with an even better body than in her Destiny’s Child heyday.
But abs like that don’t come for free, Kelly readily admits. “It takes hard work to look like this – and even more work to keep looking like it,” says Kelly, who works out every other day for at least an hour. “I practice yoga, which really helps me tone up,” she adds.
“I also go to the gym to do some cardio a couple of times a week. I particularly like the bike and cross trainer.”
When it comes to food, the singer cuts out all sugar, but has a relaxed attitude. “I don’t diet but I do follow the 80/20 rule,” Kelly explains. “Most of what I eat is healthy – fruit and veg, grilled fish and meat – but 20 per cent is whatever I want.”
We put her daily meal plan through the expert test!
Breakfast: porridge with blueberries
Snack: piece of fruit
Lunch: Whole-wheat tuna pasta
Snack: carrots with hummus
Dinner: Chinese duck salad
The verdict: “Although recipes might vary, these meal ideas are generally pretty good,” says nutritionist Joanna McMillan. “I’d add yoghurt and/or milk to porridge to boost protein and a sprinkle of nuts and seeds for fibre and nutrients.”
“Lunch sounds good but needs a big salad with it – and carrots with hummus are a great snack.”
Kelly’s duck salad is fine too, adds Joanna, as long as it’s loaded up with vegies, low on fish sauce and soy and the duck’s not deep-fried.
